Q. Are there any special requirements for construction work?

Yes, there are. Construction work is especially hard on electrical appliances. They are used over and over, often the equipment are exposed to Australia's harsh outdoor environment, they are used in very hot conditions, and are subject to nicks, tears, and general wear and tear damage simply due to the nature of construction work. Many work sites will prevent a contractor from working on a site unless they can show their cords and electrical tools have been tested and tagged.

As a result of the particularly hazardous nature of construction work regular inspection and testing of electrical equipment is warranted and must be carried out. The requirements are outlined in Australian Standards AS/NSW 3012:2003 Electrical Installations – Construction and Demolition Sites.
