Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What does testing involve?
The process of testing an appliance involves the following:
Visual Inspection: Firstly the appliance shall be checked to ensure that it is in good physical condition and there are no obvious signs of damage/danger. Electrical Testing: The appliance shall be tested with a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) to test for any unseen electrical faults. Record Keeping: Once the appliance is tested a record of the appliance and the test outcomes as well as who tested it is made. Q. What needs to be tested?
Any electrical appliance that plugs into a 240v outlet, including power boards, extension leads and RCD’s (Safety Switches)
Q. We have a “Safety Switch” installed. Doesn’t that protect us?
No, not entirely. A ‚ÄúSafety Switch” or Residual Current Device (RCD) only protects against certain types of electrical faults. It is recommended that all homes and workplaces be fitted with RCDs. The use of an RCD however, is not an excuse for complacency when it comes to the regular inspection and testing of your electrical appliances.
Q. Does our “Safety Switch” (RCD) need regular testing?
Yes. Your RCDs need to be tested to ensure that they will respond to a fault situation quickly enough.. powerTAG will test your RCDs to ensure that they comply with the standard.
Q. Can the testing damage our equipment?
No, powerTAGs’ Technicians are well trained with many years of experience, and use only the latest in Portable Appliance Testing equipment.
Q. Are you insured?
Yes, We have current Public and Product Liability Insurance for $20,000,000.00. Certificates of Currency for these are available upon request.
